Saving Gaston County Schools At Risk of Closing

Gastonia NC: As part of our continuing mission to dedicate a portion of our web services to benefit the community, we are proud to announce the debut of a web site dedicated to the efforts of Gastonia and McAdenville families to save 3 schools that are at risk of being closed down.

We were approached by one of the parents who is spearheading this effort. A study was done showing that closing down York Chester Middle School and Rhyne Elementary in Gastonia as well as McAdenville Elementary would save the city money. There are currently public hearings being held and parents concern has increased after leaving the hearings that have been held so far with the feeling that they aren’t being heard.

We were more than happy to help, especially since one of our own children would be effected by these closings, should they happen.

In just a few short hours, we opened a set of Facebook Groups, a Twitter Account and started putting together the web site, knowing that each would assist in coordinating efforts between people from all three school neighborhoods. We setup an online petition and event calendar and created posts linking to much of the media coverage that this issue is already garnering.

There is still work to be done in the coming days, and we’re excited that we were asked to be a part of this important effort.

OMJ! One Man’s Junk Site Launch

Lowell NC – After 2 months of intense development, the OMJ! social selling web site had it’s official launch on Labor Day, September 5th, 2011.

The new web site is a natural progression from their wildly popular Facebook Groups, which were closing in on 60,000 members. OMJ!’s concept is simple, combine the social aspects of Facebook with the powerful classifieds of sites like Craigslist with strong safety measures in place to provide the feel of a giant indoor flea market.

The Bessemer City Merchants Association

Late last year we found out that my hometown of Bessemer City, NC was creating a non-profit merchant’s association to help the business and overall community to thrive and improve. I immediately jumped at the chance to help this exciting project out by offering our web design and hosting services to them at no-cost.

This isn’t the first time we’ve offered free or discounted services to a non-profit or religious organization..in fact it’s standard practice for us; however this time there’s a definite feeling of pride in being able to “give back” to the town where I enjoyed a wonderful childhood. Bessemer City is the quintessential “small-town” filled with friendly folk, safe streets, good eats and is quietly becoming a destination for many families as well as new businesses and industry.

New Features Added to ADK Cabin Rentals Site

Last month Nancy, a long-term client of ours from way up in the Adirondacks asked us if we could add a new feature to her vacation rentals site. A lot of her potential renters had been asking about availability so she needed a way to place calendars into each of the listings on her site.

The software used to run her listings database didn’t offer that feature so we had to do some research and see what options we could provide her. As is the case 99% of the time instead of having something custom-programmed at a high cost, it’s just a matter of finding where a company has already created something that is exactly what’s needed. In this case we found it from Stivasoft. For a very affordable price they have an availability calendar with all the features we knew Nancy would need, as well as a simple admin area so that she could easily update the calendars herself.

After install, we went in and added the calendars for each of her rental listings and plugged in the necessary code into her templates. 15 minutes of training over the phone and she was ready to roll.

Less than a week later we got an email from her where she was glowing over how well everything looked and worked…and from the feedback she was already getting from her site visitors.

Site Rebuild For Aquatic Pleasures

Aquatic Pleasures Dive Center in Kings Mountain, NC is the latest of our long-term clients to request and receive a full site rebuild for 2011.

They had expressed a desire to upgrade their site in such a way so that they could more prominently feature their events/charters, as well as have an easy way to make simple updates and changes to the content of the pages.

We decided after consulting with them to upgrade them to the WordPress CMS platform. Not only does this meet their current needs, but prepares their site to be ready for endless possibilities and additions in the coming years.

The owners, Teresa and Calvin, were ecstatic over the new site release and are already brainstorming over new additions they can include.
